Qingdao's Coffee and Tea Art Street

Updated: Jan 30, 2018

Qingdao (the Q is pronounced as ch) is my favorite city in China. I first visited in 2015 when I decided to take a short ride on one of China's high-speed trains from the city of Zibo, where I lived and worked. I've traveled there one time since then.

Located on the southern coast of Shandong Province, Qingdao boasts lovely sea views and European architecture (Germany had a settlement there around the turn of the 20th century). It was the venue for the sailing competition in the 2008 Summer Olympics and it is the home of Tsingtao beer.

I was out exploring, as I so often do when I'm visiting a city, and came across the sign in the photo above. Coffee being one of my two favorite things in the world, I found myself a little excited. So, naturally, I had to go check it out.

I walked the length of the street, looking at all the different coffee and tea shops. Then, of course, I just had to visit at least one of those shops and try the coffee; and, so I did. Nice atmosphere, decent coffee. I decided that this street of coffee and tea shops was my favorite part of Qingdao, and that I would certainly return there on any subsequent visit to the city.

If you're ever in Qingdao, go visit this wonderful street. Just tell the taxi to go to Minjiang Er (pronounced "are") Lu.
